A Better Way to Do Farm Boxes.

If you’ve tried CSAs before, you know the tradeoffs:

  • Pickup days that don’t fit your schedule

  • Driving out of the way to grab a box before it closes

  • Boxes filled with random items that don’t come together as comprehensive meals.

  • One of everything—but not enough of anything

  • Good intentions… but food that ends up going to waste

  • It starts to feel like more work than it’s worth

You want to eat local. You want to support farms. But between busy weeks, family schedules, and everything else life brings—you need it to be simple

Cooking doesn’t have to be complicated to be meaningful.

The CropDrop, brought to you by Shadow Birch Farm, is a weekly farm box membership designed to help you slow down, cook together, and rediscover real food—grown right here on our small, but mighty, farm. Each box includes a rotating mix of fresh vegetables, greens, herbs, and simple recipe inspirations that invite curiosity, creativity, and connection. Don’t forget to add on a whole chicken and a dozen eggs to round out your box!

  • Every week, you’ll receive:

    • A seasonal selection of farm-grown vegetables and greens

    • A simple recipe idea or two focused on one of the ingredients or how to pull a meal together.

    • Ideas and food that encourages mixing, tasting, and making it your own with your family

    • Choose to add-on a whole chicken or two and dozen eggs to round out your shopping

  • Most meal kits tell you exactly what to do.

    The CropDrop does something different.

    It helps you:

    • Try new vegetables without pressure

    • Build confidence cooking without screens or step-by-step rules

    • Learn how ingredients work together

You’ll discover vegetables you may not usually buy—like center-cut squash, fennel, or peppery arugula—along with approachable ways to use them.

Meat and eggs are not automatically included (so you can choose what your household prefers), but the recipes are designed to pair easily with protein. Whole Chickens and Eggs can be added a la carte from the online store.

  • Families

Perfect for families who want to:

    • Cook together without phones or tablets

    • Help kids explore new flavors at their own pace

    • Make weeknight cooking feel like an activity, not a chore

    Couples

    Ideal for couples who:

    • Want easy, seasonal inspiration without over-planning

    • Enjoy cooking together but don’t want rigid recipes

    • Like pairing vegetables with seafood, meat, or a good bottle of wine

Think relaxed dinners, shared prep, and meals that feel intentional without being complicated.

    Curious Home Cooks

    For anyone who:

    • Loves farmers markets and CSAs but end up only doing it on occasion because it’s complicated

    • Wants to expand their palate beyond the usual rotation

    • Enjoys experimenting with flavors and textures

Busy People Who Still Care About Food

If you value good food but don’t want:

    • Long grocery lists

    • Complicated instructions

    • Waste from unused ingredients

This box brings farm-fresh food to your door each week.

  • Each recipe is an inspiration or starting point.

    We’ll guide you with:

    • Flavor pairings

    • Simple techniques

    • Suggestions for pulling it together

    You can always:

    • Add chicken or eggs

    • Turn a side into a main dish

    • Swap ingredients based on preference

This is not a meal kit. Just some simple cooking inspiration for how we treat the ingredients we grow and raise.

  • Early Spring Box

    • Mizuna

    • Tatsoi

    • Ramps

    • Chives

    • Asparagus

    Early Fall Box

    • Center-cut squash

    • Sweet onions

    • Mixed greens

    • Fresh herbs

    Greens-Forward Box

    • Arugula

    • Mixed Greens

    • Fennel bulb

    • Shallots

    • Herbs

  • To keep things simple, recipes assume you have the basics:

    • Olive oil or cooking oil

    • Salt & pepper

    • Garlic & onions

    • Basic spices or seasonings

    Rarely specialty items required.

  • Everything we grow and raise is done with care and intention.

    • Vegetables are grown without chemicals, in healthy, living soil

    • We focus on regenerative practices that build the land over time—not deplete it

    • Chickens are raised on grass and fed premium organic, corn-free, soy-free feed

    • No shortcuts, no mass production

That takes more time and effort, but it results in food that’s cleaner, more flavorful, and something you can feel good about feeding your family.

It’s not meant to compete with grocery store food—it’s a different standard entirely. In fact, most local farms do not use organic feeds and spray chemicals when tough growing conditions arise - not us.
